Obtained using the new method results can be easily compared with all other materials published until February 2012, except for a couple of moments.


Model DEXP W240 is a 23.6-inch “frameless” display with Full HD PLS matrix production of Samsung, which is available in the current financial situation for 9500 rubles.

Direct competitors (if we consider the segment of 23 to 23.8 inches) are comparable to other brands – from 9000 rubles. Similar in design to display ASUS, but with other materials in the decoration, a wide selection of ports and announced a bunch of technologies will be released in 14 000-15 000. The difference is much greater. For Samsung product at exactly the same matrix as in the W240, will have to pay 12 000-14 000. Conclusion – there is a choice and it was good. In general, it is a good opportunity for a little-known brand to express themselves with an affordable quality solution. Competitors in this price segment in DEXP there. Well, interesting to see how W240 will look at their background.

On the basis of the reported data and DEXP matrices produced in the second quarter of 2015, the model W240 uses AD-PLS matrix LSM236HL01 manufactured by Samsung. Test Results

Color gamut

The monitor is installed W240 AD-PLS panel. Check it on the example of the color gamut of 23.6-inch novelty DEXP:

Brightness / Contrast and key performance indicators color

After calibration, the white point slightly changed, and the average value range come close to our “REFERENCE”. Deviations DeltaE94 fell several times and totaled 0.43 and 1.49, respectively. A very good result, but the contrast ratio and color gamut could be better.

Gamma curves, gray balance and results UDACT

With this program HCFR Colormeter colorimeter and calibrated X-Rite Display Pro I studied gamma curves in all the above modes, as originally preset and custom-designed. In addition, the measurements made possible to estimate the divergence of gray wedge (dots black and white gradient) on CIE diagram and draw conclusions about the prevalence of a parasitic hue, or it they do not exist.

Made manual adjustments in PC mode enabled cope with problematic blue channel and achieve full legibility of extreme light tones – took a glut in the 95-100%. Point black and white gradient shifted to the desired area on the CIE chart and were located quite close to each other.

Monitor in this form shows more optimistic results in the test UDACT, rather than at the factory setting. The ideal, of course, far away, but in terms of white and gray balance almost managed to cope. For the rest of the system requires data on the real possibilities of the display, and not some standard profile sRGB.

Gamma curves have changed significantly and as close to “REFERENCE”. Point gray wedge slightly changed position.

Additional features and settings

The uniformity of the gradients

Despite the use of psevdovosmibitnoy (6-bit + FRC) AD-PLS matrix with the default settings and after manual edits DEXP W240 demonstrated impressive uniformity gradients. Of course, this is not the level of these eight-bit display (of which the market is very limited, and this class is not at all), but very close to him.

The stability of the color temperature

We continue the study monitor DEXP W240, assess the stability of the color temperature in standard and special image modes.

The results in this table represent the deviation of points on the gray wedge axis X. The vertical axis they do not affect, and therefore to evaluate the presence of parasitic shades can only be on the CIE diagram under “Gamma curves, gray balance and results UDACT».

The stability of the color temperature in the standard mode is average. But when you activate presets Game and Movie it falls by more than half.

Manual tuning in PC mode allows to achieve significant improvements precision setting White Point and reduce bias to 1.07% on average and 3.81% at the maximum. Further reduction leads to calibration of the first digit to 0.89%, and the second, on the contrary, increased to 5.71%. It is likely, and not allowed to expose offset Gray Balance in the test UDACT.

Now consider the results of the special modes Color Temp. Let me remind you that the manufacturer installed by default preset «6500K». Therefore it is necessary to take into account that the values of his column coincide with the results of PC mode from the first table of the sub-test. We can only talk about the three remaining modes DH.

Here it is possible to note the following:

  • Declared in the name of the mode values are not measured – the difference is between 400 and 2000 Kelvin;
  • The most serious deviation from the declared mode is observed in 9300K;
  • The higher the color temperature, the higher the deviation;
  • User mode is very similar to the default 6500K exhibited with differences within the measurement error.

As a result of advice is this – if you are interested in “Reference» 6500K, then immediately activate mode User, and if possible and available instrumentation spend it additional configuration.

Stability contrast and range of brightness

To study the stability of the contrast and brightness range of variation was exposed mode PC. Brightness value changed from 0 to 100% in increments of 10 units. For the table below the measured values were obtained through the program HCFR, which makes it possible to more accurately assess the level of black (three decimal places) and thus determine the validity of the contrast ratio.

Speed matrix and INPUT-lag

Viewing angles and Glow-effect

Uniform illumination and color temperature

Uniformity of illumination of the monitor and the color temperature of the screen on the field tested in 35 points at the set brightness of 187 nits (the possible maximum, after bringing the white point of 6500K mode to PC). The basis for all calculations (deviations) are taken data from a central point.

The average deviation from the center point was 11.7%, and the maximum – 30.5%. The result is below average, especially for such a small diagonal.

Presented on the surface of the diagram, you can clearly see how the brightness level is focused on the field of the matrix. Possible maximum was detected only in the center. Most heavily obscured the entire upper part of the matrix. Initially, the problem is clearly manifested in the work, but later it can be used.

We now consider the uniformity of the color temperature over the entire area of the screen.

For testing we used manual settings for DH 6500K, the brightness of the white field at the center point was maintained at 187 nits.Result 1.9% deviation on average and 3.6% at the maximum – the complete opposite numbers uniformity in brightness of the backlight. In general, the index is above average.

The resulting color temperature range was 6250-6685 Kelvin, which is more than 150K less than the standard difference between the boundary values at 600K, identified in the majority of tested by our method monitors.

Charting a whole resembles that on the uniformity of brightness, but the deviation is not so significant. Although the overall uneven illumination becomes noticeable.

Power consumption and heat

Through the use of LED backlight monitor provides economical energy consumption compared to CCFL.

With the default settings, in which the measured luminosity of the white box of 205 nits, DEXP W240 model consumes ~ 19 Wh / h.Reduced to 200 filaments 18 leads to Wh / h, and brightness of 100 nit accompanied by a decrease of energy consumption to 12 Wh / h.

  • Maximum limit ergonomics stand and VESA-compatible mounting absence;
  • Low uniformity backlight brightness level (possibly dependent on specimen);
  • The measured contrast ratio three times lower than claimed.

Can not arrange:

  • 41-205 range of brightness at a contrast ratio of 285: 1;
  • Poor choice of interfaces for connecting and easy delivery;
  • Gradients significantly deteriorate after calibrating the monitor due to the rather strong revisions in LUT card due to not the best factory settings;
  • The lack of built-in speaker system (especially against the background of the design), USB hub, the system cabling;
  • Indistinguishable crystal effect (thanks to a glass protective surface), despite getting a close-up on the result;
  • Average uniformity of illumination on a black background, which is often on the IPS-like matrix;
  • Glow effect is still in place.
