Review memory modules DDR3-1600 Corsair Vengeance LP, Kingmax and NCP of 2 x 4 GB

Review memory modules DDR3-1600 Corsair Vengeance LP, Kingmax and NCP of 2 x 4 GB

If DDR4 memory type is gaining momentum, the DDR3 is still the most popular and widespread. Yes, in the ordinary overclocker memory modules play an important role, albeit secondary. They also have an impact on the result in discipline, but not as significant as the processor or graphics card, so the memory paying a little less attention. Even when it comes to updating the system.

At the moment, the most common are strips of 4 GB. This is due to the fact that many manufacturers have mastered the modern manufacturing processes for a long time and switched to chetyrehgigabitnyh chips. Accordingly, to achieve the required volume enough to place only eight chips on one side. Let us not forget that this configuration is by far the best for overclocking, as the most productive models are made under such scheme.

But now fallen on hard times: the prices for components have increased substantially and are in no hurry to fall. Along with the other components, memory always stood apart because its value is affected by many different factors. Probably everyone remembers the fateful fire at one of the factories a major producer, and then the prices for finished products increased almost twice. In December 2013 I bought Hynix modules of 8 GB of 770 rubles apiece, and today? Yes, the cheapest strap with a volume worth more than 3000 rubles. It turns out that it’s not a bad investment. Now it is necessary to look towards the budget decisions to half the volume.

Why is that? Yes, everything is very simple. Now virtually every system uses dual-channel memory controllers. Of course, there are exceptions, but if you focus on the productive segment of the mass, all the same it is two channels. Therefore, it is necessary to buy two units and is now spending 6 000-7 000 rubles for them, many are not ready psychologically. And, in my opinion, the best option today – 4 GB modules. So I decided to buy a few sets to create different systems and test them at the same time to disperse. Of course, I had to resist the temptation to take expensive overclocking kits, drawing their attention to the beginning of the table price list.

By the way, as it turned out the study, you can buy a branded set of two modules of about the same price as a couple of bars obscure the piece. That turned out to be a good set of firm Corsair, namely Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9W. Maybe I was just lucky to stumble on some pre-crisis price, but among other things they brought me white radiators and low voltage.

Other participants were chosen at random, as indeed were at the top of the price list. This module NCP (NCPH9AUDR-16M58) and Kingmax (FLGF65F-D8KJB). First appeared like a real noname, as put to me without any packaging (and even more so – quite different). Kingmax also looked for the same price a lot more pleasant, but it’s not for contemplation, they were taken, so it’s time to move on to a more detailed study and testing.

Packaging equipment

NCP modules have been ordered by me through the Internet in a big company. And this is not the first time the firm brings me quite unsuited bar. If I was in the store, of course, be changed to the same, and so had only a shrug, because the courier had brought what he was given.

It is clear that no packaging is not here, but the price is among the lowest.

Kingmax (FLGF65F-D8KJB)

At a similar cost of these memory modules is provided at least some packing.

It is a clear plastic blister. It is not sealed around the perimeter, and closed by two latches at the corners. Each consists of two recesses, one on top and another on the bottom half. On the back of a solid blister, so when you open the latch, he is revealed as a book.

Memory module itself is rigidly fixed in a special recess. In addition, it is behind the cardboard insert that is also fixed in the grooves of plastic packaging. Therefore, if you accidentally uncover clips (or even deliberately shake the contents), do not fall out.

And this is the source of the cardboard insert at least some information about the product.

In front are the squares with the above characteristics, and in the appropriate places marked diagonal pen feature. As I turned strips of 4 GB with an operating frequency of 1600 MHz, all obvious.

In the upper left corner of the logo of the manufacturer is located and its slogan: Yours Forever («Your forever”). On the right is some kind of nonsense that can only confuse the buyer. To begin with, that indicates the type LONG-DIMM. Even if I’m getting this device a little embarrassed, and tried to remember the number of contacts a conventional module. And even I thought it was some sort of standard for specific devices such as printers or other office equipment. And heartily amused inscription support Windows 8. What are people going to do with the upcoming 8.1 or 10 minutes?

Behind in several languages, including Russian, according to the technical characteristics of the module. Here, by the way, too many uncertainties. CAS latency can be renamed timings. With «CL = 7″ is more or less clear, but a «CL = 9″ is already clear. Does the memory of such timings at 1600 MHz? It says that like so, but in fact it is not. Questions have to voltage 1.65 V, because, despite the frequency of 1600 MHz, these straps work at 1.5 V.

Some of the information is hidden inside the cardboard insert.

On top is the instruction for the user. Its essence boils down to the fact that, before touching electronic equipment, you need to wash your hands to remove the static, or even better grounded.

Below is information on the guarantee, which is five years. Many are outraged, why not for life, but in my opinion this period is sufficient. A shown in the bottom line of the other products.

Corsair Vengeance LP (CML8GX3M2A1600C9W)

The most interesting package in the modules of Corsair. It is a complete package consisting of two strips DDR3L. The last letter indicates undervoltage – 1.35 V. The idea of such a kit should cost more than even because of their characteristics, but I was lucky and I got it for the price of two simple straps.

The package is safely be called the traditional producer. Above is a cardboard box.

The front in the upper right corner of the main characteristics of a set of volume and frequency. In the center there is a large fragment of one of the modules, namely, the middle part with the company logo. Here there is a small glossy insert, where it is shown completely. Specify the name of the line Vengeance LP. Recent letters denote Low Profile – this means that the radiators low.

At the bottom there are a couple of icons information about support processors Intel, as well as the designation DDR3L. With the ends of the box sealed with round stickers with the company logo.

On the reverse side you can find more interesting information. In the middle there are two small windows through which could be seen through the transparent plastic labeling modules. Here is a more complete information about the characteristics.

You can see the full name of the model, frequency, timings, and the operating voltage of the audit. At last we can judge about the manufacturer used chips. In this case, it is ver 8.22, which means – Nanya. Not without recourse to the purchaser. In Russian, it looks like “work only with the use of specially selected chips DRAM, tested for performance and reliability, memory Vengeance LP offer speed, stability and compatibility, in a low-profile form factor.”

Below is a sticker with bar codes, as well as a full model name. Near a small insert, which is told in several languages about the warranty. In Russian it reads as follows: “provides a limited warranty for life.”

Inside color carton lies a clear plastic container and a leaflet with information about the warranty.

The container consists of a tray in which the modules are fixed in a special recess and cover.

The design and features of Memory

About the package we have already talked, and now study in detail the RAM modules themselves.

We have before us two very different trims. Of course, no radiators are not provided, so you can go directly to the study of the printed circuit board.

By the way, they are very similar, if not identical. The main difference – PCB color and some minor internal notation. It may even seem that one module is simply “left” and the other original. But how to understand where what?

Similarly, it is obvious that the various memory chips used, as even with the naked eye visible differences in size. Consider first the upper module.

PCB green. Memory chips, like other members, uses only one hand. Since one byte is eight bits, it turns out that the chips chetyrehgigabitnye.

The sticker, which is on the left, there is almost no information. Please indicate model – NCPH9AUDR-16M58, but something to find with it is difficult. Is the volume, theoretical capacity and a lifetime warranty, which corresponds to reality. Along the edges of the printed circuit board can be found different numbers and symbols.

On the one hand it begins numbering metallization layers. It ends with the same edge, but behind.

It is clearly seen that the number is six. On top rails are usually layers of eight, but we have a budget option, so it’s not bad.

All devices are labeled as NCP NP15H51284GF – 16. Hard to say who their real manufacturer, but it seemed to me that this is Micron, and below I will explain why.

On the other side, where the chips are soldered, the center is a chip SPD.

Now look at the other module. Here again one can observe only eight chips on one side.

Immediately on the label, with a completely different design, is located at least the same information on a given strip. Marking differs just one digit – NCPH9AUDR-16M28. Again, it is not clear what it means. Along the edges are the same notation.

Even metallization layers still six.

The main difference – of course chips. They are slightly smaller in size, which in theory suggests a more subtle technical manufacturing process.

Chips labeled as NCP NP18H51284GF-16. With regard to this the manufacturer, it is also unknown, but sewn SPD information that is Micron. SPD chip is located in the heart of the center.

Good noticeable that this chip is completely different markings.

Kingmax (FLGF65F-D8KJB)

Here there is a similar pattern. Eight memory chips soldered to one side of the PCB green.

Labels are as much as two and they are almost completely cover all the chips. One serial number is printed and on the other – more labeling. On top of the latest logo emblazoned manufacturer and the same slogan. Below are three whole barcode. To the right, you can find models marked – FLGF65F-D8KJB CAEU. Next, specify the frequency and volume, and below another serial number.

At the bottom of the small letters reminded inadmissibility removing labels to avoid loss of warranty. Intimidating, but if stickers were plastered all chips, I’d peeled off first, because her only some strange serial number and no threats of deprivation of guarantee.

There PCB virtually absent any notation, but the number of metallization layers again numbered.

So they again six. Chips also re-marked, and they suffered the manufacturer’s logo and the internal model KFD8FMJBF-BBX-12U.Under this designation, of course, nothing could be found.

At the center of the chip can be detected again SPD.

Always it indicates that the data strips made in Taiwan.

Corsair Vengeance LP (CML8GX3M2A1600C9W)

There are made and modules Corsair, but not in this to look for when buying. I will not hide that I wanted to purchase a set of radiators is white. Yes, this is the only plank in the review, which they are.

It looks beautiful, especially when there is a corresponding motherboard, video card, and housing. And the price at the time of the acquisition was quite attractive. On the low voltage I am not guided, but once it happened, it will not be superfluous.

What I do not like modules with radiators, it’s because they need to take for testing, and this process is not always smooth.Manufacturers also, unfortunately, make a thin printed circuit board, and even glue them in some superglue. Earlier radiators filmed almost themselves, and now it becomes a work of jewelry. By the way, I have already had occasion several times to take your chips.

In this case, the radiators are glued well and had pretty tricky to remove them. More precisely, just one shot, which closes the memory chips.

On the other hand it is practically impossible to remove because it is adhered to a smooth surface with a greater contact area.

The heatsink is made from an aluminum alloy in some form. On the one hand it is painted in white. On the reverse is the adhesive strip, which runs at the chip level and is in contact with them. It consists of termorezinki blue and two double-sided adhesive tape.Fixing is carried out very reliable, so when removing the tape may be affected, which is what happened. The particles remain on its chips and very difficult to remove.

The conclusion is simple – it is better not to take radiators. But once I did, then let’s look at the module.

Again, eight memory chips soldered on one side. However, the printed circuit board are dark brown, almost black. Along the edges have no information, except indication of the number of layers.

Again, there are six. Microchips are also re-marked, but we already know that their company is a manufacturer Nanya.

On the chips themselves a logo of the company Corsair and its marking 512M8DDJG NFC0301433. And at the bottom of some specified number of companies already Nanya. In the middle of the chip can be detected again SPD.

The process of re-assembly is not without superglue. Adhesive tape staffing considerably damaged, and in some places even torn termorezinka. It was necessary to seal all. The module then worked properly, but to remove the radiators just so I would not recommend.

I will not hide his surprise results. Personally, I have long been accustomed to the fact that the brand modules are not very well chase because the manufacturer is trying to ensure that only the stated specifications. So, basically, it turned out at bars and Kingmax. Acceleration he is absolutely contraindicated. Yes, they are good and beautifully packaged, they can be found in almost every hardware compatibility list, but they can only work in the nominal mode. In this manufacturer There are more productive and more expensive models (for example, Hercules), but his memory of the budget in terms of acceleration was the worst that I have ever met.

It surprises me and modules production NCP. However, one of them did was to re-mark Micron, and the second even sewn in the SPD profile XMP. Both I liked when safely bred to 1600 MHz with timings of 9-9-9, something besides Kingmax was simply not given. Then they showed good acceleration, and there could rejoice … But, unfortunately, they were intended for the platform AMD, and there is one bracket does not work (the one that does not Micron). Therefore, when buying these modules need to be very careful and keep yourself maneuver the waste in order to be able to pass them or exchange.

Oddly enough, but it is the representatives of Corsair rose to the occasion. I myself dislike brand strap, because I believe that the manufacturer takes the money for the name. However, the objective in this test, they were better. In principle, this result has been predicted because of their inherently better characteristics than those of competitors at the same price (mine). Of course, in terms of overclocking stars from the sky, they are missing, but the cat in a bag are not.
