ASUS Z170-Pro Gaming: cheaper does not mean worse

The new ASUS motherboard has everything you need to create a gaming system of the middle class and the acceleration of new processors Intel Skylake. In this case ASUS Z170-Pro Gaming has nothing superfluous, so it is much cheaper than the flagship segment motherboards that have not stopped her to incorporate all of their strengths.

The difference between this motherboard and Z170-Deluxe and its possibilities will be discussed in today’s article.

ASUS Z170-Pro Gaming is packed in a relatively compact box with a picture of a warship from the game World of Warships on the front and information on the exclusive invitation code for a 15-day premium account in the game.

Package of ASUS Z170-Pro Gaming has four SATA-cable with latches, connecting bridge for SLI, a device for the safe installation of the CPU into the socket, plug for the rear panel and two blocks for easy connection of cables to the connectors on the housing board.

The motherboard is produced in China. The ASUS Z170-Pro Gaming goes with three-year warranty.

Externally, the new ASUS Z170-Pro Gaming is very different from ASUS Z170-Deluxe, the design of which is dominated by bright colors. Here we see the classic dark coloring with red accents on the radiator of the chipset and power elements.

Nevertheless, this ascetic design does not make the motherboard boring, and, hand on heart, we note: the design of the motherboards is secondary, because they are always covered with cooling and expansion cards. The size of motherboard refers to the ATX standard, its dimensions are 305 × 244 mm.

Location of key elements ASUS Z170-Pro Gaming is shown in the following diagram.

On the rear panel are output (left to right): two USB 2.0/1.1 ports and a combined PS/2 connector; video outputs HDMI, Display Port, DVI-D and D-Sub; four USB 3.0/2.0 port; two USB 3.1 ports, and various types of network port LAN (RJ-45); panel with five audio outputs and S / P-DIF.

Supports resolutions up to 4K inclusively, as well as the ability to simultaneously connect up to two displays.

Thin needles of processor socket of LGA1151 linings are closed with a plastic cover that protects it from dust and accidental damage. There are no optimizations typical for ASUS motherboards with LGA2011-v3 socket. We can only note the supplied plastic frame, simplifying the installation of the CPU into the socket.

Currently ASUS Z170-Pro Gaming supports all processors Intel Skylake, but the latest models – from Core i3-6100 to Core i3-6320 – you need to flash the new BIOS of version 0703.

Unlike the ASUS Z170-Deluxe, having twenty-phaze system of CPU power, the new ASUS Z170-Pro Gaming is equipped with ten-phaze power system.

Let’s add that one of the USB 2.0 ports on the rear panel supports USB Flashback, which can be used to restore or update the BIOS without having to install it in the processor board and memory.

Standard controller Nuvoton NCT6793D-M is responsible for the monitoring function, fan control, COM-port and a combined PS/2 connector.

ASUS Z170-Pro Gaming is equipped with a 7.1-channel HD-audio codec SupremeFX, based on the widespread chip Realtek ALC1150.

Marketers and engineers ASUS place particular emphasis on the fact that the audio path uses high quality capacitors Nichicon. In addition, a built-in headphone amplifier Sonic SenseAmp, supported imaging technology Sonic Radar II, multi-stream playback, as well as the reassignment of the front audio panel connectors. Sound tract on the board is isolated from the PCB strips without conductive layers.

As for the cooling system of ASUS Z170-Pro Gaming, there are applied only relatively compact passive radiators with thermal spacers. Heat pipes are not available.
